Concept / Notes

Hades, the god of the dead, was transferring their souls to the underworld through boats. Upon boats, human souls are being set free; ready to dance in the heart of the night; liberated and independent to do what they wish‘, says Psarianou.

She creates a site-specific performance for camera at the coastal sea front of the city; lightining up candles putting them into small handmade paper vessels; setting them free into the sea dusk. Her repetitive yet ephemeral action becomes a fluid light constellation for passers-by, on the page of the sea before it fades away into the dark. The object of vessel often becomes a mobile metaphor for a thought, indicating the drifting condition as a silent way of transmitting a message (Bill Psarras, curator)
