Concept / Notes
‘Bourtzi (close to Nafplio) was an island prison for convicts surround by water. In order to stay alive or get paid they usually accepted to execute other convicts imprisoned to Palamidi area. Each time they were transported by boat from there it was time for them to kill. In this performance, I intend to shed light to this unknown part of history; by tracing their route from there to the city, as a silent way of atonement for them. ” says Delavia.
Delavia intends to reveal a forgotten trace of such a violent history. She use the boat to perform a silent gesture with light inside the moving vessel at the small limen of Bourtzi and elsewhere she walks across empty streets and industrial areas of the suburbs. At night, her action is a light moving dot within the sea which becomes a mobile projection guiding her steps when passing to the next dock. (Bill Psarras, curator)
